What is Hourly Settlement?
With the new regulation introduced by EPDK, the monthly net settlement period for unlicensed generation facilities (especially rooftop and ground-mounted PV) has come to an end. The new hourly settlement model requires that generated and consumed energy be calculated separately for each hour, with surplus generation valued at that hour''s Market Clearing Price (MCP).
This fundamentally changes the balance sheet of prosumers: how much you generate and consume in each hour of the day now directly impacts your bill.
Why Is It So Critical?
Hourly settlement makes you sensitive to three main variables:
- MCP Volatility: Intraday MCP values can swing between 200 TL/MWh and 3,000 TL/MWh. There is a significant revenue gap between exporting at night (low MCP) versus midday peak (high MCP).
- YEKDEM Charge: The renewable support contribution added to each kWh you consume varies on an hourly basis.
- Loss Coefficient (KBK): The value of energy you export to the grid is reduced by the distribution loss coefficient.
Calculations based on daily averages are therefore misleading. Even if your generation and consumption appear balanced over a day, you may end up with a large net debt on an hourly basis.
Risks of Manual Tracking
- Missing hours in meter data (especially 00:00–02:00 timezone shifts)
- Incorrect date matching of MCP/YEKDEM data from EPİAŞ
- UTC vs Europe/Istanbul timezone confusion
- Unexpected billing shocks at the end of the tax period
What Does SmartPlain Offer?
SmartPlain is the energy management platform that automates the hourly settlement process end-to-end:
- Hourly generation + consumption matching: Through EMOS meter integration, hourly generation and consumption of each facility are automatically matched.
- Automatic EPİAŞ integration: MCP, YEKDEM and KBK values are pulled daily from EPİAŞ; no manual data entry needed.
- Europe/Istanbul timezone standard: All calculations are performed in local timezone; no data shifts.
- Settlement report and KPIs: View your monthly net position, most profitable/lossy hours, and generation performance on a single screen.
- Excel/PDF export: One-click reports for your accountant or supplier.
Who Should Use It?
- Industrial consumers with PV plants: Factories with rooftop or ground-mounted unlicensed generation.
- Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ) members: Those who need settlement tracking in shared generation - distributed consumption models.
- Multi-location chains: Retail, hotel, and logistics companies seeking centralized management of generation/consumption balance across multiple branches.
Conclusion
Hourly settlement is no longer a choice — it is a regulatory requirement. Every hourly data point missed by manual tracking erodes your profit. Use SmartPlain to automatically collect hourly data, see your real-time position, and maximize ROI on your investment.
